Day 54: Driving to Point Pelee

 Dear Gilles.

Traffic!

We loaded my truck with all seatbelts in use. The box 100% stuffed full of gear (without our bikes) and headed out on the Queen Elizabeth Way (QEW) to Point Pelee.

Along the way was cars. Not just in volume. Construction. Lane closures. Stalled vehicles in the centre lanes. A 340 km trip took us more than six hours.

We stopped off at Drummond Apple Farms. Got a tour of his nitrogen storage facility, ate some delicious year-old apples and purchased some apple cider.

Our apple blossoms are further along than southern Ontario.

It was a good break for the kidlets. We had a late lunch at Wendys and continued on our way.

We made it to Wheatly Provincial Park around 6pm.

It was MUD.

The ground is still super saturated from spring time weather.

The fog rolled in for the evening. We took a walk to the shores of Lake Erie and had no idea what was in front of us. Was there land? Was there never-ending water? We couldn't see a thing.

From a foot bridge, we could see fish jumping in the water. We could see shadows of blue herons poking out of the fog.

The temperature was good and allowed for easy sleeping.
